A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ALICE
Alice Savery couldn't decide whether to pursue a career in Art, Forestry or Education - her careers advisor told her to go away and think about it!
After studying Art at A'level, Alice went to Hereford College of Art and Design and did the Art Foundation course. Although tutors encouraged Alice to pursue the illustration route then, she decided to follow her other interest of Education and went on to study Early Childhood Studies at Plymouth University (Exmouth campus). After three years by the sea, Alice returned to the rolling hills of South Shropshire and undertook her Forest School Training - an approach to education that has evolved from the Scandinavian approach of embracing the outdoors as a learning environment.
This led to Alice working for Shropshire Council for 12 years in the role of Forest School Development Officer. During this time, Alice acquired further qualifications in first aid, training adults, bushcraft skills, along with a Masters in Education. This role involved the delivery of Forest School sessions to children of all ages, Forest School training for adults, as well as conference workshops, one off sessions, professional development and inset days for school staff, outdoor team building events, published research and conferences.
Since this role terminated in August 2018, Alice has evolved this work into nature connection workshops, having also completed a qualification in 'Mindfulness in Woodland Settings'. She continues to support Forest School Leaders in Shropshire as an associate CPD provider for Shropshire Council and the University Centre Shrewsbury, now under the independent name of 'Drawn to the Forest'.
Ever since art college, Alice has continued to keep a sketchbook. During the years she worked full time for Shropshire Council, she also completed a diploma in Illustrating Children's books (a correspondence course) and has kept a daily practice of doing an observational drawing every day since 2013. Combined with a love of lettering that started at a very early age, this passion for drawing and lettering started to escape the confines of her sketchbook in 2015 and Alice Draws The Line was born with the first online sales of work with her illustrations on.
Alice now runs workshops in Brush Lettering, Beginners Botanical Watercolours as well as Nature Connection workshops. Do get in touch if you would like to know more!
