A new video

Over the last few months I have done three A6 drawings of bracken in different stages - green, yellow and now I've drawn the third; brown. I set the camera up before I started and so you can watch the drawing appear! You can subscribe to my You Tube channel to be notified when I upload a new video.

Recent commissions...

Well, where has the time gone?!

In December I did quite a few different commissions and projects - some I can't show yet, but it's time to have a look at a couple of them!

First up was a present for a very special little girl;

I have decided to offer this as a listing in my shop; have a look here!

This is a commission that I did at the end of last year, for a bride who asked me to draw three flowers in her wedding bouquet as a gift for her mum as a thank you present. I think this is such a lovely idea - I really enjoyed doing it. 

First I did a rough sketch to send to the client before going ahead with the final illustration

I've also added this as an option to my shop - it doesn't have to be wedding bouquet flowers, it could be a favourite or a few favourites! Have a look at the listing here. 

Recent studies

I love Autumn treasures - I feel like I'm part squirrel when I venture out as I'm always returning with a collection of seeds to draw. There is a section of the studio that looks like the woodland floor at the moment, with so many treats awaiting sketching!

I'm building up a body of work for an exhibition that is running Nov- Dec... more details soon. Commissions welcome - I'm working on several lovely ones at the moment!

Rosehips

Another great red/orange lurking in the hedges. These are from my garden - I've been looking at them for a while meaning to draw them, and now I have!

Runner bean flowers

...I went to pick the Runner Beans, but couldn't help but come back with a flower to draw. Another great colour I think.

September studies

Drawn in the last week of August - the Elderberries have really changed since then - I feel another Elder study is needed!

September!

Sorry for the silence here on the blog - I've been having a lovely little holiday! I continued to draw however, but couldn't upload due to lack of signal - which was quite nice to not being able to think about it. 

I'm back now however and have been working away on ... brace yourself... Christmas printing. My Christmas cards are currently at the printers and I have everything crossed that they will come out just as I hope. Now might be a good moment to sign up for my newsletter (link somewhere on the left there...). 

But before we go Christmas crazy - would you look at the Autumn colours that have crept into the palette all about us.. as demonstrated by my good friends; Hawthorn, Blackthorn, the Blackberries, Beech masts and cases and conkers.

I don't really have a favourite season... but do have a soft spot for Autumn... 

Floral Friday!

I know I said I'd focus on trees this week - but I really enjoyed drawing the Crocosmia a couple of weeks ago that I've drawn some more - this time on watercolour paper for the shop.

Oak in August

The acorns are such an amazing green at the moment! This is now in the shop too! It is an A4 original.

Rowan

I have a Rowan tree in my garden. It's berries are practically glowing at the moment - and it's dripping with them. It was obvious that I had to draw a bit. 

Today also marks a change - quite a big one for me. I have stopped drawing my botanical studies in my beloved sketchbook. Instead I'm drawing them on watercolour paper... and they are going to the shop! I'm going to try and add one a day for the rest of the month... do have a look and spread the word!

There is only one however, so once it is gone it is gone. This one is A4 and can be found here in the shop!

Holly

The Holly at the top of a field near my parents is covered in green berries - I'll have to remember to return and draw them again later in the year

Lime

Trees haven't featured here for a while but I've been keeping an eye on these too! Here are some August updates! First up - the Lime tree. It's finished smelling delicious, and now the seeds are starting to fall -another amazing design really

Alkanet

Such a brilliant blue - I've been meaning to draw these for ages and finally I've got around to it!

Fushsia

I adore the pink and purple on these fuchsia flowers - we used to pick these and tuck them behind our ears as earrings when we were little!

Snapdragon

I love a Snapdragon. We used to have some at the bottom of the garden when we were little and my sister and I used to make them talk to each other. We did this fairly recently and fell about laughing doing funny voices for them - easily pleased!
