This is my independent venture into the Forest School world. Having delivered Forest School sessions, training, workshops, staff meetings, conferences for Shropshire Council for the last 12 years, as of September 2018, Alice Savery will be doing this in an independent capacity, under the name Drawn To The Forest.
Do pop over and visit me there!
Background
Since 2004, Alice Savery has been involved in Forest School in Shropshire.
Having first discovered the approach during her degree in Early Childhood Studies, she focused on the approach for her dissertation. Following university she then went onto become a Forest School Leader and then a Forest School Trainer and completed a Masters in Education based entirely around different aspects of Forest School.
Alice has worked with a wide range of age groups; from Childminders with children of all ages - from those not yet walking through to late primary age children, pre-school and nursery groups, all primary ages, secondary groups including challenging behaviour, school phobics, study-plus groups as well as looked after children and foster parents. This has been predominantly leading Forest School sessions, and occasionally other more short term projects.
Alice has delivered team building days for large teams, inset, professional development days and staff meetings for schools, as well as taster Forest School days for degree students and sixth form students.
In her role as Forest School Development Officer for Shropshire Council, Alice has run Forest School Conferences and hosted the Forest School Association Conference in 2015. She also delivers workshops at conferences and events.
Alice has also written articles on Forest School (Living Woods March/April 2011) and research on perceptions of risk as published in Education 3-13, International Journal of Primary, Elementary and Early Years Education; see here for abstract.
Alice delivers Forest School sessions and training part time and this time spent in woodlands is the major inspiration behind her illustration work.
